has worked with women, men and couples in the Richmond area for over 25 years. Experienced in treating anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and loss, she also has a specialized interest in Women’s Issues. First as a single woman, and now as a working mother in a committed relationship, she has personal experience dealing with some of the unique problems that face women in our culture, including: balancing home/work/career demands, multi-tasking, handling extended family relationships, being single or divorced in a couples’ world and dealing with body image/self-esteem issues. Her approach is empathic, practical with a problem-solving focus, as she helps her clients deal with these complicated issues.

Dr. Buczek also has three decades of experience helping people solve relationship problems. This includes specialized training in Couples Therapy, Couple Communication and Affair Recovery. She is aware that men also face challenges in this culture in terms of relationships. Her focus with men is to assist them to develop the skills to identify emotions, communicate, and make intimate and deep connections with significant people in their life.

She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Bowling Green University. This included intensive training in family and couples therapy at her internship placement in Palo Alto, CA. Dr. Buczek began her Richmond career at Virginia Commonwealth University as a teaching and research faculty member. While at VCU, she introduced the Psychology of Women and Family/Couples Therapy courses and supervised the clinical training of graduate students. She also is the author and coauthor of research articles on various problems women present in therapy.

In her practice, Dr. Buczek uses a number of therapy approaches, including: insight-oriented to solution-focused, family systems, gestalt, affect, and cognitive-behavioral because she recognizes clients are different in what works for them. Whatever the technique, she believes in the importance of building a positive and open partnership with her clients. She has a warm, down to earth, collaborative style.
