Laura E. WertDr. Laura Wert

has been working with children, adolescents and adults in the Richmond area for over 20 years. Her expertise spans inpatient, outpatient private practice and community mental health center work settings. Her specialty areas include therapy with families experiencing divorce, particularly with parents in learning to work more effectively together for the benefit of the children. Dr. Wert also works with children and adolescents in improving their relationship with an estranged parent. These problems in the relationship between the parent and one or more of their children sometimes happen in the context of a hostile divorce. Dr. Wert also completed training in Collaborative Practice. As a result, she is now also working as a divorce coach and child specialist in collaborative approaches to divorce.

In addition, Dr. Wert provides therapy services to those with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and eating disorders as well as working with couples in marital therapy.

Dr. Wert came to Richmond in 1987 to complete her internship at the Virginia Treatment Center for Children. She earned her bachelor’s degree Summa Cum Laude with honors in psychology from the University of Richmond in 1982. She received her doctorate from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1988. She was an adjunct faculty member for a number of years at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she supervised graduate students in the Clinical Psychology program. She has presented at a number of statewide settings for attorneys and judges in Virginia on topics related to divorce, custody and co-parenting.
